Firefox Fu: Quickly Search Wowhead

These tricks apply only to Firefox, but other browsers, like Chrome, may have similar functionality.

Ever wanted a quicker way to search Wowhead? I mean...you could type "www.wowhead.com" in the address bar, but that takes forever. Well fear not, gentle reader, for I've found a solution.

Smart Linking and You

So what's the secret? It's called smart linking. You can assign any search box a keyword, then you can search it by typing its keyword into Firefox's address bar.

So to add a smart link to Wowhead simply visit its homepage, right click on the search box, and click “Add a Keyword for this Search”. You should make the keyword short and easy-to-remember. I chose "wh" as my keyword.

So now all you have to do is type that keyword in the address bar followed by what you want to search for. For instance I can type "wh red defias mask" to search Wowhead for the Red Defias Mask (if this doesn't work remember to replace "wh" with the keyword you chose).

The great thing is it doesn't end there, you can add smart links to all your favorite wow sites (or any site with a search box). I added smart links to Wowhead's Mists of Pandaria database (keyword "mop") and Wowpedia (keyword "wp").

You Want Another Way?

Well, maybe smart linking isn't for you...or maybe you want to be the leetest kid on the block and have two easy ways to search Wowhead.

Another neat way is to add it as a search plugin. This adds it to the list of search engines in the search bar. Simply go here to download Wowhead's plugin. Once that's done simply select it from the search box's dropdown list and start searching!

Conclusion

So those are my Firefox tips for the day. If you have any cool wow-related browser tips then feel free to comment and share them with the rest of the class.
